Mary Kom, Sarita gearing up for the London Olympics

IMPHAL, June 5: Two Asian Champions incidentally both from the small state of Manipur are gearing to participate in the London Olympics though both will have to fight in the same category of 51 kg category.
Mary Kom recently was crowned the champion of the 46 kg pin weight whereas L Sarita was crowned the 51 kg fly weight champion in the recently held Asian Championship, Kashakisthan.
L Sarita, who has a former Churchill brothers as husband, while talking to IFP stated that living along with Ng Dingko at SAI turned her attention to boxing though she was staying there as a taekwondo player.
She further stated that it took only one year for her to become the national champion in boxing. Simultaneously, she became the 54kg fin weight Asian champion in the same year.
She has also added that she had to bring down her weight to 51 kg so as to participate in the London Olympics which will be introducing Women’s boxing in 2012, with only three categories in the 51kg, 60kg and 75.
Sarita, who has the sponsorship of Lakshmi Mittal Steel Plant, also stated that her sponsors are willing to take up any projects, which will help her in the London Olympics.
In the meantime the Indian boxing Federation will be starting a Boxing Camp, which will look only at the London Championship at Bhopal from June 15, though she will have to wait till June 17 to reach the camp.
Mary Kom who is sponsored by the Olympic Gold Quest and the management Infinity Solution of Society will be reaching the camp by June 14. She further stated that the London Olympics would be her last chance for a fight for the Olympics gold Medal.
In the meantime, it is also note worthy that all weight category below 51 kg will have to fight in the 51 kg in the London Olympics as there is no weight category under 51 kg.
